Come Ye Thankful People Come
“Come, Ye thankful People, Come” is the first movement of a Thanksgiving Suite that includes: 2. “We Gather Together” and 3. “Thanksgiving Medley.” The three pieces may be played separately, as a set in a concert, or (as originally conceived) a Prelude-Offertory-Postlude in a Thanksgiving worship service.
The first two movements feature original melodies written in the spirit of the season, which then move to a freely accompanied version of the familiar Thanksgiving hymns. The final movement is a medley of three other thanksgiving hymns set in a kind of rollicking rondo.
