Christmas/Easter Overture based on a 14th century German hymn tune.
An ancient German melody which has traditionally been sung to a variety of Christmas lyrics and has been arranged by composers as diverse as Gustav Holst, John Rutter, and Wayne Shorter (12th Century Carol, Alegería). J.C. Middleton composed a powerful Easter lyric to the tune, which I think is an outstanding match to the triumphant melody. Consequently, it could be appropriate to use this chart in either a Christmas or Easter context.
